VOLUNTEERING AT THE PMCA

Become part of an exciting new museum in Pasadena! The Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA) is looking for volunteers to assist with daily museum operations, including bookstore sales, gallery attendants, and special events staffing. Qualified volunteers are also needed to help with office work and giving docent tours.

Must demonstrate excellent people skills, including courteous phone manner. Must be able to commit to working at least 10 hours a week for 8 weeks. Training is provided for all positions. Knowledge of art or experience working in other art museums preferred.

INTERNSHIP OPPERTUNITIES AT THE PMCA

Getty Foundation Multicultural Summer Internship

The Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA) is pleased to offer two internships through the Getty Foundation Multicultural Summer Internship Program for Undergraduates this year.

The EXHIBITION AND EDUCATION INTERN will work with the Exhibition Manager in general curatorial and educational areas.  The curatorial duties and responsibilities involve participating in the organization of future exhibitions that are in various stages of development.  Other responsibilities include helping to draft exhibition text and press releases, assisting contract curators with research, assisting with registration and program planning, researching and identifying potential artists for the PMCA Project Room, assisting Exhibition Manager and Head Educator with educational programs, and assisting gallery staff with installation of an upcoming exhibition.

The DEVELOPMENT and MARKETING INTERN will work with the Development and Marketing Manager on funding development and museum marketing.  The intern’s primary Development responsibilities will include researching foundation and corporate funding prospects using the internet and the fundraising library at the Center for Non-Profit Management, assisting with the preparation of grant applications, assisting with the PMCA’s annual benefit event planning, and participating in fundraising meetings.  The intern’s primary Marketing responsibilities will include developing creative marketing plans for museum events and exhibitions, and assisting the Membership Manager on membership marketing.

ELIGIBILITY AND TERMS
Students must:

- Be of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent;

- Be currently enrolled undergraduates who have completed at least one semester of college by June 2010, or who will complete their undergraduate degree by September 1, 2010; (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.)

- Reside or attend college in Los Angeles County; and

- Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.

Candidates are sought from all areas of undergraduate study, including the sciences and technology, and are not required to have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts.

The Getty Foundation provides each intern a stipend of $3,500 for a ten-week summer internship at the PMCA in Pasadena, California. The internships are full time beginning in June and ending August 2010. Housing and transportation are not provided.
